About Peter Wojtecki

Peter Wojtecki came to the U.S. as an 18 year old immigrant from Poland. He worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania.

Peter had a deep love of the United States and when WWI broke out he enlisted in the Army. After the war he married and settled in Stamford's South End. He worked for the Yale and Towne Manufacturing Company as a die maker during the day and as a special police officer in the evening until he passed away in his sleep on Christmas Eve at age 53.

Peter was a devoted member of the Holy Name Church and the organizer of the Pulaski Democratic Club which was formed to educate the Polish immigrant community in the democratic process and to help and encourage them to become American citizens.

His name is engraved on the World War I monument located in Stamford on Main Street in front of the Holiday Inn.
